The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched following reports of kayakers in difficulty between Ogmore Deeps and Southerndown. In failing light the crew located one kayaker below the cliffs near Southerndown. He told the crew that he had been swept into a cave by a wave and been trapped but had just managed to free himself. He believed his friends on a double kayak had gone ashore at Southerndown to get help. It was confirmed that his friends were safely ashore when they contacted UK Coastguard to advise of their friends predicament. The kayaker was taken onboard the lifeboat and taken back to Southerndown beach where both him and his friends were met by Llantwit Major Coastguard team.
