A special visitor arrived at Porthcawl RNLI lifeboat station on Sunday 28 April 2019. Beth Wickes, who is walking the GB mainland coast, started the next leg of her journey at Porthcawl heading to Port Talbot lifeboat station.

Beth is raising money for the RNLI, Lowland Rescue and Mountain Rescue services. She started her long walk at Tower Bridge RNLI lifeboat station in London on 3 Oct 2018. Having already walked the south coast and the West Country she expects the walk to take approximately two years.

As a profession, which is currently on hold, Beth is a cartographer so well used to map reading. She told lifeboat volunteers that she had already covered about 1200 miles with an expected walk totalling over 4000 miles.

Whilst some people travel to different parts of the world for adventure Beth decided that this country was beautiful and the walk provided not only a challenge for her but an opportunity to visit all of our coastline. She said, ‘I have seen so many fabulous views so far and the many strangers that I have met on the walk have been so kind and generous to me. To help, people have offered me overnight accommodation which I value and this support allows my journey to be that much more interesting too’.
