Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged for the first time of 2023. UK Coastguard had received a 999 call reporting that a red Cocker Spaniel dog may have gone over the cliff edge near West Farm, Southerndown.
The charity’s Atlantic 85, Rose of the Shires was launched on service and made best speed to the location. Colleagues from Llantwit Major Coastguard were also tasked to the incident.
Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew conducted a thorough search of the area below the cliffs, also checking ledges on the cliff face before stepping out and searching slightly further from the shore. The Coastguard Team carried out a search of the cliff tops. The Coastguard Helicopter based at St Athan which was training in the area also joined the search for a period of around 10 minutes.
Despite the best efforts of our volunteer crew and the Llantwit Major Coastguard Team (both of us searching for around an hour) as well as the assistance of the Coastguard Helicopter we were unable to locate the dog.
If anyone has any further information or locates the missing dog (a red Cocker Spaniel) please report it to the Coastguard.
