HM Coastguard requested the launch of both of the charity’s lifeboats following a report that a person was spotted possibly in difficulty in the water opposite the seabank hotel.

Porthcawl’s lifeboats were involved in a multi agency search along with Porthcawl Coastguard, Port Talbot Coastguard, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 187 which is based at St Athan and South Wales Police. Despite a thorough search by all involved nothing was found.

All search units were stood down after around an hour by HM Coastguard with the call believed to be a false alarm with good intent.
