Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were tasked during their Sunday morning training exercise by HM Coastguard following a report that a kayaker had capsized off Ogmore by Sea and was unable to reboard his kayak. Being blown offshore by winds he had abandoned his kayak and was attempting to swim ashore.

The charity’s D class lifeboat Hugo Missen made best speed to the incident arriving to find the casualty had made it ashore. The crew then proceeded to locate and recover the kayak and returned it to the shore.

In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
