In 1947, 47 people lost their lives in the grounding of SS Samtampa, just off Sker Point including 8 courageous RNLI crew members. Porthcawl Runners are organising a run to commemorate their sacrifice, to remember the other lives lost, and to raise vital funds for the ongoing work of the RNLI. The route will go from the harbour end of the Eastern Promenade, up to the new Samtampa Memorial at Rest Bay then returning to finish next to the Porthcawl lifeboat station.

The event will take place on Sunday 6th April 2025, and starts at 9:30am. Registration opens at 8.30am and closes at 9:20am. Participants should arrive in good time to register or to collect their number from registration if they’ve registered online.
