UK Coastguard requested that our D Class lifeboat diverted from a training exercise to investigate two swimmers Porthcawl NCI had expressed concern for. The D Class had been involved in filming for BBC Wales' X-Ray Programme at Rest Bay along with colleagues from RNLI lifeguards for a feature about beach and water safety. The crew were quickly
UK Coastguard paged our volunteer crew to launch our D Class lifeboat to assist two teenage girls who found themselves cut off by the tide on rocks near the entrance to Porthcawl Marina. Our Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched following a request from UK Coastguard. A girl on a Stand Up Paddleboard was unable to get back to the beach at Pink Bay and despite her best efforts the tide and offshore wind were too strong. Her father was concerned for her safety and had called UK Coastguard.
Our Atlantic 85 was launched on service due to concerns regarding a kayaker who appeared to be intoxicated off Coney Beach (Sandy Bay). The crew spoke with the kayaker and encouraged him to return to shore. Once he was safely ashore the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
