In failing light the crew located one kayaker below the cliffs near Southerndown. He told the crew that he had been swept into a cave by a wave and been trapped but had just managed to free himself.

As the lifeboat was proceeding the duty RNLI lifeguards and Penybont SLSC lifeguards successfully carried out a rescue and got the casualties back into the beach. The lifeboat was stood down and returned to station. Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched following a report to UK Coastguard by Porthcawl National Coastwatch. They had concerns for a group of kayakers off Irongate Point as one was capsized and unable to reboard his kayak. Once on scene the crew found the kayakers had made it ashore near Windsor Road and no further assistance was required.
