Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard following a sighting of an unattended white paddleboard which had been spotted drifting off Newton Point. Coastguard teams from Porthcawl and Port Talbot were also tasked to conduct a shore based search.
Both the charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires and D Class lifeboat Hugo Missenย were launched on service and conducted thorough searches of the area. The NPAS police helicopter was also involved in the search. Following a search of the area lasting nearly 3 hours and with no reports made of a missing person the lifeboat crews were stood down and returned to station. The lifeboats were made ready for service.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
