Our volunteer crew were tasked by UK Coastguard to a kite surfer who had got into difficulty near Newton Point. The incident had been reported to UK Coastguard by National Coastwatch Institution – Porthcawl with footage from their surveillance CCTV relayed to the operations room.

The D Class lifeboat was launched and quickly arriving on scene to find the kite surfer had ditched his equipment when his lines became tangled and he had swam ashore to Trecco Bay. The crew assisted the kite surfer with packing down and recovering his equipment. Our colleagues from RNLI Lifeguards South East Wales also responded to the incident.
