Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged by HM Coastguard following a report of fisherman cut off by the tide at Witches Point, Southerndown.

The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat Rose of the Shires was launched on service and made best speed to the location. Once on scene the crew carried out a search of the area and spoke to various members of the public who were fishing. The crew were able to establish that no one was in difficulty and the call was a false alarm with good intent. The crew were stood down from the incident and returned to station.

In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
