Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were tasked by HM Coastguard following multiple 999 calls reporting two women in difficulties in the Ogmore river.
The two, a mother and daughter had been caught by the rising tide on the wrong side of the river and had tried to wade cross, but it was too fast running. The pair were washed down river and managed to scramble onto a sand bank in the entrance of the river. They found themselves on a bank that was being covered by the tide.
The charity’s D Class lifeboat Hugo Missen was launched on service and made best possible speed to the incident.
Once on scene the crew spotted the two casualties on the sand back surrounded by surf. Both were brought aboard the D Class and after assessing their condition they were out ashore on the east side of the river, close to where their car was.
The Lifeboat then returned to station.
