Porthcawl RNLI’s volunteer crew were paged following several 999 calls to UK Coastguard reporting a kite surfer in difficulty between Ogmore By Sea and Tusker Rock.
The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat ‘Rose of the Shires’ was launched on service and made best speed to the location. Once on scene the crew began a search of the area in order to locate the kite surfer. The crew soon spotted people on the rocks at Ogmore Deeps waving and flashing a light.
On further investigation the crew were able to establish the kite surfer had made it ashore onto the rocks. A crew member went ashore onto the nearby beach in order to ensure that the kite surfer was unharmed and required no further assistance.
Once it was confirmed the casualty was safe and well the lifeboat was stood down from the incident and returned to station. Our colleagues from Llantwit Major Coastguard were also tasked to this incident.
In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
