Our volunteers launched our Atlantic 85 on service following reports of a windsurfer in difficulties off Llantwit Major beach which had been reported by RNLI Lifeguards. The lifeboat was on scene within 20 minutes and commenced a search of the area. After searching for approximately 10 minutes in rough seas the casualty was located by our crew near Stout Point. He had landed on the beach and was cut off by the tide. Due to the conditions we requested assistance from the coastguard rescue helicopter and one of our crew members swam ashore to reassure the casualty and ensure that no further medical assistance was required. The rescue helicopter landed on the beach to transfer the casualty, his equipment and our crew member from the beach. The casualty was transferred to the top of the cliffs and our crewman back to our lifeboat.
